Cory Doctorow's Makers

You can read the free version at Tor.com. Warning: it has 81 parts, and each part will be appended every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until January 2010.

I like this. It's like watching anime. You watch the fansub then you buy the actual thing cos you like the show a lot. Conversely, there is always the library...

Jaw Dropping Funny! Southern Belle Dishes the Dirt

It's called Dishing with the Kitchen Virgin with Susan Reinhardt.

I am at Page 36 and so totally loving it that I am deliberately slowing down my reading speed so that I can enjoy every well crafted word. A particularly delightful excerpt would be the part where she describes the act of seducing your man with the way you eat.... crabs??? I never felt more badly for Sebastian. Haha.

"So, listen up sex-deficit sisters. Here's the deal. When you go to a seafood restaurant, order the crab claws and learn how to open them before you arrive so you don't look like Rowan Atkinson crunching through crustaceans in the movie Mr Bean's Holiday. Perfect your skills with the crab cracker or learn to snap the claw by hand in precisely the right spot to release long and succulent strips of pure white crab. The meat will emerge from the shell ready for a buttery skinny-dip.

Go ahead and express your hot desires for food. Eating with lust is as erotic as wearing a thong teddy from Victoria's Secret.

I rushed to phone Mama with these thoughts and ideas, figuring that she'd call me a big fat harlot.

"Oh, sweetie, I never told you about eating in front of men. You can't moan and go all out because they'll think you're a hussy. Your Aunt Hattie used to drive them all wild 'cause she couldn't help herself at the table. She would grunt and groan and carry on about every bite she took, and she not only cleared a table but could also empty a room. It was a complete embarrassment, especially if you gave her a vine-ripe tomato that dripped juices down her chin. "
With this in min, all ye women afraid to swallow food in front of a man, take heart and EAT! No need to play coy or say "I'm on a diet. I'll just have a salad with no dressing.:

That's not sexy. That's neurotic. Nothing worse than a woman on a date ordering a dry salad and Diet Coke. You can imagine the messages this sends men: "I'm cold and frigid.""I only like sex when I'm not feeling fat, which is hardly ever.""I have hang-ups about everything in life, including eating."

If a woman wants to impress a mate or lay out a scene for seduction, she'll set the table and get down to the business of cooking something grand and sort of greasy.

A negligee is no competition for a perfect lasagne and loads of mozzarella dribbling from the lips of a lover. A bustier is no match for a meal of crab claws dipped in hot melted butter and running down one's jaw.

People like Aunt Jemima, Julia Child and Betty Crocker (me says: hey Betty Crocker does not exist. She is a fictitious figure!!!) must have gotten plenty of action on their Sertas because no one could possibly enjoy slaving over a hot stove unless a major reward is attached.

Updated!!!
Read this book for the anecdotes, though they do get tiring and a bit boring towards the end of the book. DO NOT read it if you are looking for recipes.

Tutorial - Getting Started with Android 2.0 Development in Eclipse [Eclair version and up]

Since I formatted my pc and had not been touching my Android development and am not a coder in real life, it's rough trying to recall how to set up ADT development in Eclipse. I find the new method of installing the Android SDK a pain in the ass, compared to the old method. Thanks Google =P

So I thought I would write out the procedure here, to also benefit others who want to get started in Android.
  1. Install Eclipse [latest version: Galileo, i.e. Eclipse 3.5]. At least download the version for Java Developers.
  2. Unzip Eclipse and set up your Workspace (where all your projects will be defaulted to). You may prefer to do so, so that you can refer to the different projects at one go, rather than open multiple Eclipse workspace and kill your pc.
  3. Download and install the ADT Plugin. Google says it best here, so follow the instructions under "Installing the ADT Plugin -> Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo)".
    • Remember to restart Eclipse after this step.
  4. Download the latest SDK . For additional professional techie advice, refer to Android page.
    • Unzip the SDK and run the SDK Setup.exe. It is found in the SDK folder ([folder that you unzipped it to]:\android-sdk_r3-windows\android-sdk-windows)
    • If you have left the SDK folder open after clicking on the SDK Setup.exe? Close it!!! Or you have run the stupid Android SDK and AVD Manager (downloader and installer) again.
    • Also, close all Eclipse Dialogs.
    • After you run the SDK Setup. exe, it opens the Android SDK and SVD Manager. You can see under Installed Packages that you have installed the Android SDK Tools. good but not enough. Go to Available Packages and install all the packages from SDK source: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. (Currently finds 10 packages).
    • Android will ask you to choose the packages to install. Just Accept all, unless you are so bothered to read it. In the end, Google will still executes its rights as owner, so why bother?
    • Sometimes you will encounter a https error, and it will ask you to force the sources to be fetched using http. In that case, go to Settings and click on Force https://... sources to be fetched using http://.
  5. Check under Installed Packages. You should now see Android SDK Tools (revision 3 for me), SDK Platform Android 2.0, 1.6, 1.5, 1.1 and Google APIs by Google Inc for the various Android APIs 3,4,5, USB Driver package.
  6. In Eclipse, select Window > Preferences... to open the Preferences panel.
  7. Select Android from the left panel and click Browse to hunt for the downloaded SDK location in the main panel. Choose the folder that contains the Tools folder, i.e. [folder that you unzipped it to]:\android-sdk_r3-windows\android-sdk-windows.
  8. Click Apply, then OK. When you clicked Apply, you better see something inside the box. above the Apply button. Note: it is highly likely you need to run the Install Selected multiple times. You need patience. It's only half as bad as running the patches for CoH.
Yer done! Start work on your latest Android Project today!!! Oh ya, when you are creating a new Android project and you don't see anything under Build Target, don't panic. It means that your SDK is not pointed correctly. Go to Windows > Android SDK and AVD Manager and check your packages again.

Simply Irresistible 4 ~ - Sports Illustrated suffers from poor economy?

Instead of its usual swimsuit edition, SI released some shots of some upcoming swimsuit models and called it the The 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Explorers Edition (the link is from TheSuperficial.com. I can't seem to find it on SI itself). But I ain't complaining.

Lazy Asian Flavour Baked Salmon lunch

I forgot to take a shot, but the family seemed to enjoy the lunch yesterday, and also my friend wanted the actual recipe (I had cooked an abbreviated version some months ago at another friend's house, due to lack of ingredients).

Lazy Asian Flavor Baked Salmon
One slab of salmon
Lots of garlic
At least one tuber of ginger (to disguise any nasty fishy smell)
Oyster sauce
sugar
soya sauce
some butter

Pulse the ingredients together and smear it all over the salmon. Sit the salmon skin-up on a baking sheet or pan (no need to oil the pan, if you had added the butter). Baked at 200 C for 30 min.

Served with steamed peas, Japanese-style (checking through websites, I realise now that Japanese-style means lots of Kewpie mayo and not much else) mashed potatoes (boiled potatoes and one carrot mashed with lots of milk and butter, peppered and salted liberally before mixing with fresh cut cucumber), tomato and cheese omelette.
